Is using HART digital mA to calibrate valid?

Hello,

I work for Bristol Myers Squibb in Ireland, and we have
purchased an Emerson AMS(Ver 6) station on-line with
our DeltaV control system.
We intend to use AMS calibration snap on to keep our
critical instruments calibrated.
It seems possible that one technician can do a complete
loop calibration in 2 steps:
1. Before he goes to the Smart instrument, he can do a
loop check which checks from HART mA in the Transmitter
(using the AMS loopcheck feature) to verify HART mA to
true mA (DeltaV eng units) relationship is correct.
2. He can then go to the smart instrument some distance
away, connect a 275 or equiv to the inst output. He
stimulates the inst as usual (eg using Beamex/Druck to
pressurise a PT). He records the HART mA as the output.

THe advantages of this is:
a) only one technician can do a complete loop calibration
from sensor to DeltaV screen
b) he does not have to disturb wiring to measure true
mA, as 275 is connected to inst lugs in parallel.

Appreciate any help
