I was the firmware engineer on a project that used the AD421. We ran into the same problem. The electrical engineer on the project finally had to redesign the output circuit, eliminating the AD421 from directly driving the loop current. This was several years ago, and I am not sure how he designed the circuit. I was wondering if Analog Devices had fixed the AD421 (which they said they were going to do at the time).
