Fieldbus which type of data link layer?

I am a bit confused with something i think that it is very important that automated manufacturing should use acknowledged connection oriantated at the data link layer by doing this a reliable byte stream is put to the transport layer making TCP more reliable. This is important for quick real time automated manufacture.
Am i right to think this? and is their a protocol within fieldbus that acts in this manner?
